Arkansas legislators consider stricter regulations of crypto mines

Crypto miners in Arkansas are being targeted by state legislators.

The Arkansas Senate voted this week in support of two bills to regulate cryptocurrency mining operations in the state. One measure, SB78, would place noise limits on crypto mines. It would also prohibit them from being owned by foreign companies and let local governments pass ordinances regulating the mines.

The Arkansas Advocate reported SB78 and SB79 are headed to the Arkansas State House. In recent weeks, efforts to create stricter requirements on crypto mines failed in part in the House.

Arkansas has crypto mines in DeWitt and the Bono community near Greenbrier. An out-of-state firm is attempting to begin a crypto mine near Harrison.
