$17 million in FAA grants to help airports in Tulsa and Stillwater

Airports in Tulsa and Stillwater are among those nationally that are receiving nearly $1 billion from the Biden administration to upgrade terminal facilities.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced the $970 million in grants Thursday for 144 airports in 44 states and three territories.

The Tulsa International Airport will receive a $12,500,000 grant to help fund a $112 million replacement of its AirTraffic Control Tower. The grant will pay for 25% of the construction costs.

The Stillwater Airport was give a $4,500,000 grant to pay for 20% of the city’s $24 million project to build a new airport terminal building.

Buttigieg said there is a variety of projects at the different airports ranging from new terminals or concourses to making bathrooms bigger.

“Part of that better travel experience is to invest in our physical infrastructure to improve the airports that represent the beginning and end of every passenger’s journey and airports that are a key economic engine for workers who show up there every day and communities that rely on those airports to sustain their connectedness and their competitiveness,” Buttigieg said.

He explained the FAA received more than 600 applications for the grants asking for a total of $14 billion.
