Deadly Israeli air strike sent crude oil prices up in Wednesday’s trading

An Israeli air strike that killed three sons of a Hamas leader is believed to have sparked a $1 a barrel gain in crude oil prices on Wednesday. The deaths only added to growing worries that the ceasefire talks between Hamas and Israel won’t lead to success in ending the fighting in Gaza.

It showed again how reactive the market is to the bloodshed between Israel and Gaza and Israel’s intent on wiping out Hamas.

US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude rose 98 cents or 1.2% to settle at $86.21 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Overseas, the global benchmark Brent crude gained $1.06 or 1.2% and finished at $90.48 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.

May natural gas rose 2 cents to $1.89 per 1,000 cubic feet.
More losses than gains were recorded Wednesday by Oklahoma energy stocks. Empire Petroleum dropped nearly 6% for the day and Mammoth Energy Services fell 5%.
