Gains seen in oil and gas rig numbers in Oklahoma and U.S.

The number of oil and gas rigs active in Oklahoma increased by two in the past week and the total for the U.S. did the same, according to the latest figures released by Baker Hughes Co.

Oklahoma’s count grew to 44, still far behind the 62 reported one year ago.

Nationally, the count jumped by 5 rigs to 626. The number of oil rigs shot up by six to 503 while the gas rig total dropped by one to 120. The U.S. count is still 127 fewer than a year ago when there was a total of 753 rigs active. In the past year, the number of oil rigs declined by 97 while the number of gas rigs fell by 31.

Texas gained two to reach 301 rigs and New Mexico’s count increased by one to 102. North Dakota was unchanged at 32. Kansas, according to the Red Top Rig Report, was unchanged at 21 rigs and Colorado had no change in its count of 16 rigs.

Ohio’s count dropped one to 12 and Pennsylvania’s total grew by one to 24 rigs. West Virginia dropped one, leaving 7 rigs active while Wyoming saw no change with a count of 11. Louisiana stayed at 45 rigs.

The Permian Basin numbers increased two to 314 and the Williston stayed at 34 rigs. The Haynesville was unchanged at 43 while the Eagle Ford play saw no change with 52 rigs.

The Ardmore Woodford continued with one rig as did the Arkoma Woodford. The Cana Woodford count stayed at 21 rigs while the Barnett play still has no reported rig activity. The D-J Basin stayed at 12.

The Granite Wash added a rig to reach 5 and the Marcellus play remained at 31 rigs. The Mississippian was unchanged with 2 rigs and the Utica play dropped one to 12 rigs.
