US drilling rig numbers grew in past week while Oklahoma’s count slipped by one

The number of active oil and gas rigs in Oklahoma fell by one to 44 in the past week, while nationally, there was a gain of seven to reach a total of 629 reported Baker Hughes Co. on Friday.

Oklahoma’s count of 44 compares to the 62 rigs reported one year ago.

The U.S. gain included six more oil rigs for a total of 510 while the number of gas drilling rigs grew by one to reach 116. Still, the U.S. rig count is 125 below the 754 reported a year ago. The decline included a drop of 79 oil rigs and 46 gas rigs.

The rig count in Texas grew by three to 294 while New Mexico added one rig for a total of 107. North Dakota remained at 32 rigs while Louisiana gained 5 to reach 48.

Colorado was unchanged at 1 rigs while the Red Top Rig Report showed Kansas added 6 rigs for a total of 29. Ohio saw no change and remained at a dozen rigs while Pennsylvania’s count fell two to 22. West Virginia’s count grew by one for a total of 9 rigs while Wyoming stayed at 11 rigs.

Of the oil plays, the Permian Basis saw a gain of three rigs to reach 316 while the Eagle Ford picked up three to reach 55 rigs. The Haynesville rig total grew by two to reach 40 and the Marcellus count slipped one to 31 rigs.

The Williston was unchanged at 34. The Mississippian was unchanged with two rigs while the Utica play stayed at 12 rigs and the D-J Basin continued with 12 rigs.

The Ardmore Woodford continued with only one rig, the same number the Arkoma Woodford had, according to Baker Hughes. The Cana Woodford was unchanged with a count  of 21 rigs.

There is still no rig activity reported in the Barnett.

The Granite Wash saw its total slip by two to a total of three active rigs.
