Weakened dollar sends crude oil prices up

Crude oil prices shot up a dollar a barrel in Tuesday’s trading largely because the U.S. dollar index dropped to its lowest level in more than a week. At the same time, most Oklahoma energy stocks made gains for the day.

Helping boost the crude oil was a shift by investors away from concerns over whether the fighting in the Middle East might disrupt the flow of oil.

West Texas Intermediate crude rose $1.46 or 1.8% to finish at $83.36 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Global benchmark Brent crude gained $1.42 or 1.6% to settle at $88.42 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.

May natural gas rose 2 cents to $1.81 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Tuesday proved to be another “up” day for most Oklahoma energy stocks including Helmerich & Payne where it had a nearly 3% gain for the day.
