Democrats in Colorado now plan to push for oil and gas drilling ban by 2030

Oil and gas rig

The fracking fight in Colorado promises to heat up again this year as the state’s Democratic senators proclaim they plan to introduce a bill to ban new oil and gas drilling in the state by 2030.

They further want to force companies to pay more to seal or plug old wells, adding to the growing fight with the oil and gas industry. The legislators have the support naturally from environmental groups who have pushed in the past to put the issue of a ban on the November 2024 ballot.

Under the Democrats’ plan, pumping would be allowed to continue from existing wells but there would be restrictions on redrilling or deepening some of the wells. Drilling permits that have not been used would expire reported The Colorado Sun.
