Oklahoma and US rig counts remain steady

The most recent rig count from Baker Hughes showed Oklahoma’s activity held steady in the past week and the nationwide numbers increased by one to reach 621 active oil and gas rigs.

The figures, released Friday, indicated Oklahoma was unchanged with 42 active rigs, still far below the count from a year earlier when it reached 64 rigs.

The U.S. count included a gain of two oil rigs to reach 499 while the number of gas rigs declined one to 119. Compared to last year, the national rig count is down 150 from the 771 rigs. The decline over the past year included 110 oil rigs and 41 gas rigs.

Texas remained strongest with 304 rigs, down one from a week ago. New Mexico’s count grew by one to 99 rigs while North Dakota’s count slipped one to 32. Louisiana saw a drop of one rig to 42 while Colorado was unchanged at 16 rigs.

The Red Top Rig Report showed the Kansas total grew by one to 36 rigs. Ohio stayed at 13. Pennsylvania remained at 21. West Virginia saw no change with its 8 rigs and Wyoming added a rig to reach 11.

The Permian Basin increased its rig count by 3 to reach 310 while the Williston Basin count was unchanged at 34. The Eagle Ford slipped by one to 54 and the Haynesville was unchanged at 42 rigs.

The Maracellus stayed at 29. Oklahoma’s Ardmore Woodford remained at two rigs and the Arkoma stayed at one. The Cana Woodford added one rig to reach 23 and the Barnett continued with one rig.

The D-J Niobrara count grew by one to 13 and the Granite Wash was unchanged with two rigs. The Mississippian stayed at two rigs. The Utica continued with 13.
