Push underway in Kansas to create more EV tax credits

While some say the government has given too many subsidies and tax breaks for the renewable energy industry and the electric vehicle market, some leaders in Kansas say just the opposite.

State economic development leaders there want the legislature to pass more tax breaks for electric and hydrogen-poweered vehicle manufacturers. The Commerce Department urged legislators at a recent House hearing to do more to bring the EV industry to Kansas.

Just two years ago, Kansas landed the $4 billion Panasonic car battery plant after Panasonic picked the state over Oklahoma. The Kansas Reflector reported the EV push is in the form of House Bill 2471, introduced last year by Rep. Stephen Owens, R-Hesston.
